You can say I should join the tin foil hat club, but dammit, I find myself willing to entertain the possibility that there is a sort of informal competition/initiation/bragging rights thing going on. Without three camera, Hollywood-worthy, video and soundtrack, these executioner cops end up on administrative leave with pay, are defended for free by union lawyers, and walk 99.9% of the time. Excellent odds.

Why would they do it? Mix of macho cop culture of control-unto-death, racism, and being brought up on hard-core violent and pornographic video games that desensitize men from a very young age to almost any shred of empathy or even concern for the “other.” It certainly works for the military. Add to that my personal favorite unexamined source of police violence, steroid abuse, et voila! In-group one-up-manship notch on the gun-belt.

I am grieving again today.

Once more I am mourning the senseless execution of beautiful souls torn to shreds in the prime of their lives and in the middle of their ordinary. I am grieving more premature funerals and canceled weddings and discarded futures—and I want to be alone right now.

Gun lover, please don’t tell me you’re grieving along with me today too. I just don’t think I want your company.

If you’re still against greater gun control measures—you don’t get to grieve with me today.
If you’re part of the zealous, gun-glorifying community—you don’t get to grieve with me today.

EXCITING EDMONIA LEWIS DISCOVERY

An important discovery has been made of a Bust of Christ by the Afro-Indian sculptor Edmonia Lewis (1842-1907). It is in a collection in Scotland for which she also created a Madonna and Child With Angels.

A work by her of this name was auctioned in London in the latter part of the 19th-century, but with no illustration and little other information.

For a quick intro to Lewis, her life and career, Google “Marilyn Richardson” “Edmonia Lewis” both in quotes.

Well, we don’t know the whole story. What was he doing 5 minutes before. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Mistaken identity happens. Cops leave home every day just praying to make it back to their families alive. No one’s perfect. He wasn’t hurt much. Now he’ll play the race card to get attention and to get the city to pay him for nothing with taxpayers’ money. It’s just a short video; we weren’t there so we can’t know what really happened. There are two sides to every story. The cop might have felt frightened by him and over-reacted just a bit. He had to jump him before he had a chance to reach for any weapon he might have had — that’s only good police training. They have to expect things. The cop could’ve been shot or knifed, and then what would you say, huh? How would you feel then?
