Schwerner, Chaney and Goodman Died on This Day in 1964

On this day in 1964 Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney were killed by a Ku Klux Klan lynch mob near Meridian, Mississippi. The three young civil rights workers were working to register black voters in Mississippi.

It is far too easy to forget that within many of our lifetimes Americans died for the right to vote in American elections.
